I have been lurking here for a while and learned much. I am about to alloy about 50 lbs of lead but have not seen any article that recommends one alloy over another for 100 yard paper shooting with my O3A3. Is it a question of try and see for each rifle/mold combination or so obvious and well known to everyone but me that it isn't written about. I plan on using a 311291. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

pb man

Just re-read Mike Venturino's article and saw in the footnote he used linotype. Missed it the first time around. Is this the common alloy used?

I use Air Cooled Wheelweight alloy with about 1% tin stirred into the mix to help with mold fillout. Shoots just fine with the standard lite loads (gas checked) such as 16-19 grains of 2400, 10-12 grains of Unique, and 13 grains of Red Dot.

Hope this helps,

If you have 50 lbs pure lead I'd use it for trade goods and get WW.
