This took far longer to make tonight than you'd think. It's something that'll be used every casting session so I wanted something more than just ordinary and utilitarian.

Certainly beats the masking tape I've got wrapped around the end of my pot spoon.

Nice work Dutch. :D

Don't let your wife see it. She'll think you're having an affair.

I did the same thing, but not nearly as well. I just drilled a hole in the end of a dowel, put some Selly's Knead-It in the hole and then stuffed a teaspoon in with it.

Hey. If your going to do something you might as well do it right. I believe I will copy your design.

I never thought of wrapping my spoon with tape.
Might help with the burnt fingers.:kidding:

Just don't confuse that one with your Absinthe spoon.

There ya go. The ultimate compliment. Thank you.

My first fluxing spoon was also just a piece of doweling with a hole drilled in the end. I used it for better than 10 years. I guess that's why this one had to be something more.

Thanks for the comments and no, Buckshot, my shop isn't quite that antiseptic.

I don't leave my spoon in the pot, so no burnt fingers, plus I always have casting gloves on so no worries from me.

To answer your question, yes, that is art!

Nice job there, Dutch! I like the brass escutcheon. I just use an old wood chisel that I keep on the bench.

My spoon was made in China, so the nickel plating on it was about as thick as a gnat's whisker. I used it twice before the plating was gone down to the base metal.

Almost looks European - just needs French Walnut, a schnabel forend and an engraved hunting scene. Adds a "soul" to it so they say. :-P

My skimming spoon with the wooden handle I cobbled up is splattered with lead, some of it is stuck to the engraving? on the stem, and the wooden handle's scorched and burnt where I got it (too frequently) in the molten lead.

Has that "lived in" look.

I kinda like it that way.

Art, it Ain't.

I just thought that I was always burning my fingers because I was too slow. Never thought about a wooden handle. I guess I am a slow learner too.

No.

It's over kill. :kidding:

Nice. A real purist would scare up a silver one from a flea market. :bigsmyl2:
