I am in need of a good Ruger single action revolver smith. I have a Lipseys .44 special and the hammer locked back and would not fall. I tried to disassemble it to free it up as I saw slivers of metal and what appears to be red locktite in the action in the hammer tranfer bar area. I only made things worse and I need it put back to right. I also want to have the stupid key safety and the transfer bar removed and a traditional halfcock put into this pistol. I have thought about sending this back to ruger, but I think I would rather have it gone over and done right this time. I'm just hoping that all this will not be cost preventitive.[smilie=b::groner:
Thanks in advance guys.

Lead,
There are quite a few good custom gunsmiths who could help you.
They all have long waiting lists and they charge for their time. You get what you pay for, but it requires mucho patience to wait for a gun for most of a year.
Your best bet is to call Ruger and explain your problem and ask for a label for prepaid return shipping.
Other wise it is on your money and it is about $50 each way.
No idea what Ruger's turn around time will be, several weeks at best.

Thanks for the advice. I will be on the phone with ruger tomorrow. Ill get it fixed by them and maybe find a suitable smith later.
It is just a shame because I really loved this pistol.
thanks again

I understand parts can be had to make the extra click of the Colt without losing the transfer bar.
I would keep the transfer bar at all costs, best design ever made.

problem you will run into is most of the well known pistol smiths dont have time to bother with smaller jobs like that. there more into full blown customs.

Call Jack Huntington at (530) 268-6877 -- no job too big or too small, and priced very reasonably. He built my .475 and .500 Linebaughs.......
