Lee Roundball Molds.....your thoughts

I have a 395 RB Lee mold ,just wondering what other folks think of these molds I only shoot competition and accuracy is important,it seems to cast a decent RB ,weights of the cast balls usually run + or - 0.3 gr and they look decent to,thanks in advance

I have one for all my pistol calibers in case things ever get really dire. they are like a bic lighter, when it goes bad it didn't cost much anyway. Gianni.

I kinda wish I had a round ball in .460. I saw a Lee .465 round ball mould advertised on eBay, recently. When I checked the Lee website, it appears they don't make one that size.

What am I missing?

Lee changes their "line up" of moulds from time to time. They drop unpopular ones and add ones they hope will sell. Lyman does the same. It can be frustrating when you have a particular need and they have dropped that design.

He makes them out of brass to what ever od you need. Cheep also,not much more than a retail Lee price. Only drawback is no spru cutter.I have one and know of others that have good luck with them also.

Only Lee RB I have is a .562" for a .58 frontstuffer that I swapped off decades ago. Never had any trouble casting soft RBs with it though....

I have used a .490 Lee RB mold and it worked great. I really liked the smooth sprue cut that left no protrusion. Can't say that about other RB molds I've tried.

I have Lee RB molds in 457, old army ruger- 360, colt 1851 navy-340, make buckshot- 311, 7.62x39 and buckshot- 309, 30 cal rifles --all work well for my uses. also 451 rb for my 45acp, plinker and garden rabbit round.

Get the next bigger size and run them thru your lubriser, they will have a flat belt around them. This doesn't hurt a thing, they shoot better that way, The 0.465" RB is a little too big for the 4570, it needs sized lightly also. I size them to 0.462", same POI as the collar button.

I have half a dz or so. All work fine but I don't shoot competition either.

On my latest .490 the holes in the sprue plate don't line up with the cavities and I only get one useable ball out of two cavities. Got to send that one back. Otherwise I love them. For odd sizes check out NEI also.

I have several LEE round ball molds in revolver and rifle calibers. They seem to work well. For rifle competition I do sort them by weight, and cull the heavy/light ones. Very few go more than +/- 1 gr from my .490. I do load with the sprue (or where a sprue would be) in the top, central position for target work, but I don't worry about it for plinking.
