What are the available sources for antimony? With the gloomy prediction of the demise of lead WW, I'm just wondering where this magical substance can be found.

Are you looking for pure antimony? Seems a lot easier to get it in a tin/lead alloy, like babbit metal or solder. Easier to work with, cheaper.... Try RotoMetals or send a PM to ZBench. MSC or McMaster-Carr probably have something too. Buying it in pure form might not be that much of a bargain, considering the difficulty in getting it into your alloy at home.

Has anybody ever tried melting the antimony in a soupspoon and pouring it into molten lead?

A friend got some antimony from Bill Furguson the antimony man and he alloyed it by placing in a wire cage made from concrete twist ties and supended it in a pot of lead. He came back in an hour and it had dissolved into the lead.

looks like he may not be selling it anymore according to his website. I know Bill would be happy to discuss how to alloy it with anyone who calls him.

I think pure antimony is too diff to work with. I would either use hardened lead shot or buy high antimony alloy from Rotometals. It takes very little added to pure lead & water dropped to get hard bullets.
+1 on what fredj338 said.
Here a link for the high content antimony lead alloy.

With Bill's flux, antimony is very easy to melt in at 600*. His metal came in little chunks.

Back in the day I bought 5 pounds of antimony and 5 pounds of lead to make 50/50. The plan was to use that as a handy sweetener that would alloy at lead pot temperatures.
I had to build a charcoal fired blast furnace to melt the antimony. Open gas flame wouldn't touch it. I doubt you'd have a lot of luck melting it in a soup spoon.
Anyway, never again for that experiment. I'll pay the ruinous prices for type metal first.

How much do you need? I have some lab grade powered antimony I may part with.
