View Full Version : Using Master Caster
who all here uses a magma master caster ? still trying to justify getting one. i am using lyman 4 cav and lee 6 cav moulds now. i ma thinking it would be easyer not to have to hold the mould, nock open the spur plate nock out the bullets close the mould close the spur plate then realine the mould again under the pot and start all over again. dont get me wrong i have a system casting with a fan blowing on the mould that i cycle about ever 20 sec. cast for 1 hr then rest 30 min then another hr. i would like to here from some people that have caseted by hand and now use themaster caster. mosr of these questions have beed about ease. can you make the bullets just as good or or btter than by hand? i will cast 45 acp 9mm 38 spl. thanks for any help.

I have been using a master caster for about 3 years now I can make about 3000 in a 8hr day if you get going and need to add lead I can add a 4 lb lee ingot with out it freesing up at the spout I use 2 cavity moulds last summer just for the heck of it I casted over 100000 bullets in 6 weeks 38's 45lc 45acp 44 mag it took a while to get the lead togather and cleaned another must with a master caster you need a star lube sizer they are faster than any of the others I hope that this is the info you are looking for :castmine: 44Woody
I have 2 Master Casters. They are good machines. I also have a Master Pot. The MP is much faster using 3 or 4 four cavity moulds.
The great thing about the MC is "no effort" casting. It is very easy on the body. I run mine without gloves, sitting on a stool. It's simple, easy, but slow when compared to multi-moulds and large pots. I can cycle my 38-147-RN mould every 10-12 seconds. The 45-320-K mould takes 35 seconds, this is using 725 degrees with 92-6-2 alloy. BTW both are 2 cavity.
Are the bullets any better?...................Big question. I normally say yes because the repeat factor is simplier with the MC. Hope this helps........Creeker

been using my MC since 94 neat machine but still find myself doing alot of handcasting for rifles.the plus side of the master caster is the 40 lb pot and ease of keeping my pistol bullets in lots for weight.the MC + star lubesizer sure speeds things up for me.
howdy creeker..

Using my 40 lb. master caster pot I can cycle my 10 cavity H&G 51 .38/158 Gr. every 70 to 75 seconds. I have never used it more than about 2 hours nor do I care to! Most of my pistol casting is rotating 2 or 3 4-cavity molds. You can really roll thru the lead that way. Once I get that many up to heat I really don't like to stop. Same for the H&G.

Hey Pete...............Did I buy a mould from you?.............Lynn

can't really speak to the Master Caster (tm), but my MagmaMuthaCaster MK5 is what keeps me in business. Casting 12,000 bullets a day rocks.

It's a great machine. Just be carefull... getting one just might lead to "needing" other upgrades like the Magma or Ballisticast auto casters.

Right now that's all I need to run it, until sales pick up. I'm having to get re-established in a new state and a new market, and why produce more inventory when I've not sold what I have on hand already?
