I currently use IMR 4198 in my 54R's for the higher end range. (1,800 -2,000 fps) I'd like to try it slowed down to the 1,400 -1,600 fps range with this powder. What I'm not sure of, is if this is one of the powders that will dangerously increase in pressure if not enough is used like IMR 3031 does?

Thanks in advance

..............I sure doubt it :-) Way too many people have fired way too many rounds fired from 30-'06's, 8x57 and similar high power or similar capacity cases with loads like my favorite 30-'06 target load. That's the 311284 over 23.0grs of H4198 + dacron for 1650 fps. I've also NOT found 3031 to do anything bad. My favorite plinking load in the 577-450 Martini is a paper patched 405gr Lee slug over 38.0grs of IMR3031 + dacron. It propels the slug to about 1220 fps and is very accurate.

Yeah, where'd the story about reduced 3031 loads being especially dangerous come from?

Is this a Secondary Explosion Effect question?? If so, I thought that came from using reduced loads of slower powders. Could 3031 cause S.E.E. ??

I've used a lot of reduced loads of 4198 and 3031. Never had or heard of a problem with either.

Try some SR-4759, It worked for me in my 30 Herret. Nice and bulky too. It does'nt feed well through a charger dispenser though.

Odds are in your favor when a filler like dacron is used. Odds would be like you getting into a serious car wreck during the rest of you life. Using 4759 would make the odds more like your entire family never getting into a serious wreck. ... felix
