I Googled for one and found squat. I'd like at least 156gr, but would prefer a 180gc.

Anybody got any ideas?

Get yourself a Lyman 358156 in single cavity and contact Buckshot for help with the hollowpoint issue.

I must admit that I'm still looking for the mould, at a reasonable price, and have been for quite a while. But it does sound like a good idea.

...............Lyman has a HP for 38 cal. It's a 125gr TCBB so not exactly what you're looking for.

I second the idea of a Lyman 358156 to HP. Also you may be able to find a used Lee C358-158HP mold. I have one of each and both work very well for gas checked HP bullets. The Lyman/Ideal 358439 is a nice plain-based HP version of the venerable 358429 which may be another to find a single cavity to have Sir Buckshot convert for you if you don't want to mess with gas checks.

Yeah, I've seen the "Devistator" mould. Nice, but not heavy enough for my purposes.

I think that you would be happier with a 180 fp for most hunting applications requiring penetration and a 150-160 gr HP for expansion. My 2 Cents. Gianni.

Under normal circumstances/requirements, you would be right. However, that extra 20-30gr makes a difference when it comes to noise and power when shooting subsonic loads in built-up areas at possum, 'coon and feral cat.

I don't want to disturb the neighbors, but a .22 CB just won't cut it on a wiley, untrappable, 20+lb 'coon.

under those conditions a 358439 HP cast of very soft alloy ought to be the ticket.

There is a difference between weights in the 358439 and 358429HP. the 429 is about 15 gr heavier with a wider front band. I would look for a single cavity 429 and have it hp'd by a good reliable machinist that hobbie's out of his garage in So. Cal.. That would be buckshot. Gianni.

A lomg time ago, me and a buddy were working a on a ranch quite a ways from anywhere with some free time. I had a S&W 67 and a couple of molds, 358429 four cavity and a358439 hollow point. Both got loaded with 5 grains of Unique and were cast of anything that would melt.
There was a brush patch not too far from our house full of cottonrails. Head shots were the rule and the solid bullet would punch through. The hollow point would remove the head, neatly. We surely liked the meat and the challenge, thank you Elmer Keith !!
