Went to the ranch this last week end and took my Shiloh, Veterlli, and '92 in 45 colt. Was shooting at various distances there are large mesa's with large flat slabs of sandstone lying on the sides of the mesa's. Picked ouw three slabs one was at 200 yds one at 300 and one at 400 yds the Veterlli did great out to 300 and knocked base ball size chunks of rock shooting 315g LEE 44 cal boolit, the '92 was great at 200 and took about the same size chunks out with a 255g LEE boolit, the '92 and Veterlli were doing around 1400 fps. The Shiloh in 45/70 was the winner at 400 yds it was taking dinner plate size chunks out, loaded with a 500gr LEE boolit running about the same speed of 1400 fps.
WHAT FUN! lots more fun than paper.

Sounds like a (pardon the pun) Blast. I love the 45/70

Nice looking wood and steel.

Last few varmint rifles I built I used plywood thinking I was staying old school compared to the black stock craze. Shucks next one will be fiddle back maple. I've found the longer I look at a plywood stock the less I like it.

Big cast boolits do a fine J.O.B. of making terrain features disappear don't they!
