Hello the camp! I've used .429-200 in cas for years. While I shoot bp now, I started with 8gr Unique--dirty, too much unburned powder, but right powder for full-house load--see the books. Went to HP38, good to go at 7gr for mag, 5gr for spl (pistol load). Kaboy buds are using Clays and American Select--both giving 1000+ rd/lb. There are Alliant DOT powders, but you have to pay attention--good thing about HP38 and Clays (reg not intl or univ) is nearly 3gr range--I load in the middle and never have a problem. Hope this is of assistance. See ya round the campfire. mm

I use 7gr unique with that boolit for a light load and universal loads are supposed to be about the same as unique. I usually use 44spl cases with this load so I don't confuse them with my full loads.

In the 41, 44 and 45 Colt, six grains of almost any pistol powder will be a nice mild to medium load with any cast bullet of normal weight for that round. That sounds like heresy or slipshod loading, but if you look it up, it is not.

I could list 12 to 15 powders here that would work at six grains, but a glance at any burn rate table will show you what they are. If any of them is on your shelf, you're good to go.

Rocky, make that 5.0, 5.5, 6.0 respectively for starting loads. ... felix

For starting loads, yes. But six will work in all of them if normal bullet weights (215, 240 and 255 respectively) aren't exceeded.
