My daughter-in-law is into fishing and shooting with my son. My wife thinks what I want to do is stupid, but I dont. I want to make her a necklace from some bullet and sinker molds that I have. I already have the sinker that I want to use made. I need to figure out a way to have a hole go all the way through the center of the bullets, similar to a HP. I'll be casting all of these with pewter. I think (I know) she will love it. I'll have my nephew string it up with hemp string. Any thoughts or ideas of how to do this for this unique Christmas gift? Thanks, Tom

It'll sure be easy to drill. Gonna be REAL heavy for a necklace.

I thought the same thing... gonna be heavy for a necklace.

Try asking Docone31, he's a jeweller... he might have an idea...

It will be a 1oz sinker, 2-429244 HP's, 2-311316's, a couple lightweight spinners, and some wooden beads. Probably kinda heavy, but she is a strong chick!

And have a bruised chest..... But it should be a pretty finished project!

It sounds interesting. I would cast them in tin so there would be no lead contamination.
To drill the hole, hold the sinker in one hand, then with the other drill with a small drill bit. When that goes all the way through, use the drill bit that will be the finished size. Drill all the way through.
Finish the ends of the holes by useing a large drill bit to just countersink them.
Sounds like something she will never forget.
Handmade, and one of a kind.

Docone beat me to it, I to would do it in tin only. It should be lighter and no lead. Coarse you could always drop the scrizzils on some Gold Ingots and make it from that............

My daughter's made a bunch of jewelry from both boolits and bullets. She says it's trickier to drill them than you might think, as the lead will melt with the usual high drill speeds.

Chuck the boolet(s) in a lathe headstock chuck, put the appropriate drill bit in a tailstock chuck and drill. Voila, a hole drilled dead center through the boolit(s).

It's not the bruising of the chest I'd be worried about - it's the cutting and chafing of the neck with such a heavy necklace.

Those spinners--be sure and remove the hooks---that'll make it a catch and release rig. Hope she doesn't become an ex daughter in law.

i done something similar but as a drop pendant.
used a nickel case and a tin boolit and run the chain through the primer hole with a bead over it.
a 9mm or 38 is about as big as necessary.

Think I would be more in line with your wife's thoughts! On top of that I would think that it would be a better use of lead to put it down a rifled tube.

lead and skin are not a good match

I don't have a daughter-in-law, but if I did...I would probably feel strange giving her jewelry.
I certainly couldn't do it before my wife had her own bullet & sinker necklace...

If you don't have a lathe,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Cast them from tin so they won't oxidize quickly and turn grey. Then.......wrap them thickly with masking tape and hold them with pliers while you drill the hole at a low speed. The tape will keep you from marring the bullet. Or send them to me and I will drill them out on a lathe for you...........that's the best I can do
