View Full Version : Best deal on 91/30??? AIM? my 03A3 news

Once a year I get a fetish for a Russian 91/30. AIM has them for $79.95 with acc. The older "hex" (yes, I know, I know) receiver for 10 bucks more. All have a dark bore with strong rifling supposidely. I'm pretty good at lead lapping, but a better bore always appeals to boolit lovers.

Tomorrow I may lose affections for one and wouldn't give $50. Killed a nice little 6 point with a M44, forty years ago. Who's got the "best" deal???

Bragging time: Last week my unscoped all original 2 groove 03A3 put 5 314299s (5 to 1 ww/lino) into a 2" group @100yds. :drinks:Ho-hum for most of you good shots, but sure made an old derelict like me feel good. The 19gr. 4227 load did 2 1/4", 19.5 did 3" (my fading shooting abilities helped the enlargement), but the 20gr. 4227 did exactly 2 inches c to c. This same load behind a 311291 is very accurate in this 03A3 also.

Would this same rifle shoot a 5 shot 1" group @ 100 if I got a high master to shoot it with boolits from someone who knew how to cast a precision boolit?? Maybe someday I'll con a high master from Shreveport, La. gun club to try this.

i would go with a 91/30 with no counterbore.
as far as dark bore, i recently clean up a couple of carbines by using naval jelly and a ss brush. worked great, no it does not restore a bore, but may make it into a shootable bore.

I bought three from J&G last fall. All had good bores.

I agree with Waksupi,
I have bought from both Aim and J&G and much prefer J&G.
They may charge a little more but to my estimation give better value.
Plus I like their service. Call and you get a Knowledgeable person on the phone right now and good courtesy.
The 4 91/30's I have bought from J&G (regular) were beter then pick of the litter from Aim.

That's what I like about Castboolits, always knowledgeable people to guide you. I will look at J&G. THANKS AGAIN. Depreacher:D

J&G is pretty good. I've gotten a couple guns from them and the service and theyre only a little ways away from me.

Purchased 2 91/30s from J&G a couple months ago -- well pleased with both!

I had a shop for 6 years awhile back until I closed the doors to keep it out of a nasty divorce. I bought from them A LOT. They were my first go to, to keep the surplus selection stocked. Customer service I felt was above par , and the product description was accurate to what was delivered by the "brown truck".

So... how's availability of ammo/reloadable brass still?

I need somthing realitively cheap with longish-range poop and the MN has caught my eye...
