Thanks to threads on the his board, I have to report excellent results with AA2400 and the Lee 175gr .324 bullet with my Mausers.

Load:
- Lee 175gr .324 w/Gas Check sized to .323 with the Lee sizer
- Liquid Alox Lube
- 18grs Alliant 2400, no filler

Results pictured below were from a Czech 98/22 Mauser at 50yds. I'm also getting similar results from an old Turk M-38 I got a few years back for the pricely sum of $45.00. Have yet to try in a K98, that'll be the next experiment once I have time to mold up more bullets.

It's a blast (or more accurately, not much blast at all) to shoot. I'm looking forward to using it to introduce the kids to Mauser shooting.

My ranger partner that day summed it up pretty well when he said 'No use trying 1/2 gr powder variations on that load'.

AA 2200 or AA 2495.

I could easily be behind the times but do not remember a AA 2400.

Alliant 2400 . . .OIC

18.5, 19.5, 20.5 and 21.5 grains of MilSurp SR4759 did great with this boolit also.

22.5 went to . . . well it did not shoot accurately

Well done ! The Lee 175 really is one of the best bullets for the 8 x 57. It may be THE best......

I don't cast myself, so I wish I could find a good source for them from one of the commercial casters..... for not too much (anyone who sells them - and that ain't many.....seems to want around $20.00 per hundred + shipping).

Ah, thought so. GREAT load in my G98/40, too.

I think I'll have to try this in my 24/47. 8mm is getting kinda expensive so its just about time to start to load.

18 - 19 gr. of 2400 and the Lee boolit has been a very accurate load in my 24/47. I currently use 19 gr. only because it shoots point of aim at 200 yards (what we shoot CMP vintage rifle matches at) with a 600 yd. sight setting. 18 gr. shoots just as accurate, but I had to either cover the target with the front sight or move the sights down a notch and use a low 6 o'clock hold with a lot of light below the bull. Up-ing the charge to 19 gr. allows me to put the front sight dead center on the target.
