View Full Version : Stick On WWs - Zinc?!? (why is zonc so bad?)

Scrounged a bunch of WWs from the tire store today. Noticed a larger amount of stick on WWs in the mix. Does anyone know if these are Zinc?

Also, I am noticing that there have been some threads on removing zinc from the mix with sulfur. But also a link to bullets with zinc that are working great.

I am a little confused. What is so bad about Zinc? Will it cast/size/shoot ok? Any issue with barrel wear. Why do you need to get the zinc out? Thanx

zinc in a tin/antimony alloy will make it pour horrible boolits make your alloy do stuff you won't like, and stick in your molds like little specs.
the good in the lead is a zinc pure lead alloy a totally different thing altogether.
now even with a sn/sb alloy you can get some zinc in the mix and be fine, but it is about 1.6% soluble and that depends on the tin amount.
there are other metals that will alloy in also but will change the properties in positive/negative ways.
