I was reading 1991 Handloader's Bullet Making Annual II and there is an article by John Zemanek on Cast Bullet Alloys.
On page 7 he mentions wheelweights that float on the surface after the rest have melted. He surmised they might be zinc or other non-metallic material.
I did not realize that zinc WWs had been around that long. Could explain some of my prior difficulties with casting.
