I received my NOE 311 - 165 RF today. A beautiful piece of craftsmanship indeed ! !

Nice to receive a mold that you don't have to do anything to in order to begin casting wonderful looking bullets. These bullets jump out of the mold when the halves are opened.

My bullets are perfectly round at .3115. I'm sizing to .310 ".

Can't wait to try these in some of my .30 cal. rifles.

NICE! Cant wait til i get my 3 cavity mold in mail. BTW what kind of lube you planing on using for those?

Q. What lube?
A. My lube is :

40% Lar's Carnuba Red 2500
40 % NRA Formula 50/50 Beeswax and Alox
10% High Pressure , Black Moly Grease
8 % Johnson's Paste Wax & Dextron II Trans. Fluid
2 % STP

The above %'s are rough estimates, if you're off a little bit on the 1st two , you'll end up with your lube being too soft or too hard .

Been making this lube and shooting it in pistol and rifle loads for some time now.
In my opinion it is hard to beat.

Finally got to shoot my 311-165 boolits today. My rifle is a Marlin 336 30-30. My alloy is 55%PB and 45%WW with 1% added tin[by weight] with an aged [5 wks] BHN of 10. I have the double cavity mold with one cavity hollow pointed. With my alloy the H.P. cavity drops at 165gr. and the solid nose at 169gr.
My load was 20.0 gr. of IMR4198 with 1/2 gr. Dacron filler. Boolits were lubed with Felix lube in a .312 size die. The shooting range was 50yds. The chronographed velocity was: 169gr. solid nose= 1788 fps. and the 165gr. H.P.= 1796 fps.
Results= Solid nose boolit 5 shots @ 5/8 in. group and the H.P. boolit 5 shots @ 7/8in. group.
Also did an expansion test shooting thru 1 Gal. milk jugs full of water. The solid nose boolit passed thru 3 jugs and expanded to .680. The H.P. boolit totally exploded and disintegrated the first two jugs with the boolit base only [small portion] entering the third jug. One hell of a vaemint boolit!
To say I am very pleased with this mold and boolit would be an under-statement.

Larry:

I've got mine sized and lubed, I'll be shooting mine in my Ruger # 1, 308 Win. Stainless sporter.

Here is a pic of the loaded rd. in my Winchester 308 cases. I like the nose to lightly engrave into the rifling when the action is closed. You can see this in the photo.

Will offer a report later on how they shoot.

Ya got to seat them deeper than the crimp groove in a 30-30 but it is my favorite boolit so far as far as accuracy is concerned.

Finally shot the NOE 311165 RF, it was a dismal failure in my Ruger # 1 308 Win. stainless rifle with all my " pet loads " that have previously shot so well out of my rifle. I fired 50 rounds in 5 round groups. Each 5 rounds was shot with a different powder and charge weight.

Not one of the ten 5 round groups was a decent group.

????????????????????

Ben

My rifle is SUPER accurate with my other .30 cal. cast bullets. It has shot many groups like this one below.....but it doesn't look like it will be doing it with the 311165 RF anytime soon :

Ben - I have been playing with this boolit also, and it seems rather "finicky". I have gotten some good results, but like you, some loads that worked well in the past did not perform well with the 311165 RD.

What distance were you shooting at? My 50 yd results can be good but 100yd accuracy seems to fall off. What velocity? Going much past 1900 fps and accuracy falls off. I am still trying to figure out what is going on. It looks like a dandy hunting boolit, and my daughter is using it in her 30-30 this fall. We are using 27 gr of IMR-4895 with almost .5 gr of Dacron to get consistent velocity. It chronos just a hair over 1900 fps.

Vly:

I was shooting at 50 yards. I used loads that had shot REAL WELL ( literal 5 shot ragged holes ) with my 31141 HP's , 311413, etc . I falsely assumed that those same loads that had worked so well with the 31141 HP & other cast bullets in this weight range would also shoot well with the 311165RF. Not so...............

I'm like you.....there is something here that I don't understand just yet. If looks has anything to do with it, it would be the " ultimate " .30 cal. cast whitetail bullet.

I'm thinking that it is about throat fit........maybe I'm wrong ?

I had my hopes up, but I guess it was not to be...........

Your throat fit hypothesis could very well be true. I loaded some 311165RD in 308 Win cases to try in my Rem 788 carbine - a gun that shoots cast very, very well and results were not good. I have put it aside for now as there are more pressing matters, but I will go back to it in the spring.

We got the 30-30 shooting decent and my daughter was off from school today so we had a good practice session.

I might be wrong, but I'm thinking that rifles with tight throats may not work out well with this bullet.
