I'm casting Lyman #311041 for a .30-30 (173 grain). What Saeco top punch is best for this bullet?

Is there some sort of cross reference for Saeco top punches and bullet molds by other manufacturers?

Thanks!

Have you looked at:http://www.redding-reloading.com/PDFfiles/tradbullets.pdf or http://www.redding-reloading.com/pages/saecoprods.html You might want to contact them directly.
Good Luck,
EW

Thanks, Edubya. I did look at the Saeco charts, which address only Saeco bullet designs. I hve not attempted to contact Saeco directly, though.

I take it you are using a Saeco lube sizer? If so then you are out of luck for a true fit with a Saeco TP for the 311041.

Saeco TP #30530 is about as close as you will get, you can use a little epoxy or JB weld to make a custom fit for 311041 and the above Saeco TP.

Take an unused Saeco TP to a machinest and have him modify it to accept RCBS/LYMAN TP's.

Saeco does make TP's for some of there boolits that fit in the RCBS/LYMAN lube sizers.

Maybe try running the the size/lubing process with a few reject bullets,to see what punch is close?

I ordered the #30530 - I'll see how close it is. I may have to do the epoxy thing with it.

I'm pretty new at this, so I'm feeling my way through the process.

JHinman,

Just use the appropriate Lyman top punch. Put some Alox/beeswax lube on its upper side to keep it in place, put it in your SAECO Lubriziser and start sizing. Works great.

When you want to go back to a threaded SAECO top punch just clean the Alox/beeswax out of the the threads with a q-tip and you are back to normal.

Have Fun,
