considering purchase of bfr in either 454 casull or 475/480. do all rear sights applicable to a ruger blackhawk/bisley/etc fit the sight mortice on bfr's? would bowen rear sights fit, as well? anyone aware of a similar option to f/a gold bead front/v notch rear or same for ruger bead/v sight for the bfr's? thx for any feedback.

any other peculiarities of bfr's i should be aware of that don't often show up in threads here? have everything i need to shoot 454 or 45 colts in a 454, would start fresh with 475/480. any issues shooting 45colt in 454 chamber? chamber length allow 45colt w/broad driving band to seat without issue? same for broad band in 454 brass?

thx.

Funny you ask - as I asked the BFG gunsmith almost the same question. His answer was you can use the blackhawk/SBK sights on the BFR. Didn't inquire about the Bowen. When I took my BFG rear sight off I noticed a "hump", which is probably for the scope mount and that might have to be milled down - not sure about that, so give it a try without milling or give BFG a call. If you go the 454/45 route I would recommend getting the Precision Center Revolver in 454, as that revolver can shoot and will probably be very accurate with the 45 Colt as well - if you got the 1% that doesn't shoot the 45 Colt as well as you would like you could have them make you a 45 Colt cylinder later on ($350 cost). There's a price difference between the factory production and Precision Center revolvers but I think it's worth every penny if you want a different barrel length, style etc.

any idea what that price difference is? ability to get a 45colt cylinder is certainly worth something-had the same on f/a casull long time back, but wound up selling it for another project. they have any comment on sights?

The factory production revolvers in 454 and 480 list at $1,050 but can be had from Bud's Guns for $823.00. I don't believe there's any price break available on the Precision Center revolvers and there cost is $1,249.00 plus $40.00 shipping. The extra cylinder is $350.00 - if ordered at the time of building the gun you would save later shipping costs on both ends - probably $75. They don't make a 45 Colt in a production caliber, so if you ordered just a 45 Colt BFR the cost would be $1,599.00 plus shipping, as it's considered a "custom" caliber.
The factory sights are fine for most but BFG sells Millett as an aftermarket but you have to mill the "hump" down in the slot - can order the revolver with the milled slot at no charge but I think that messes up the scope mount that come with it???
Here's there site - if you want to talk to the gunsmiths - call the precision center number - 218-746-4597. Take a look here.

Hope its OK to but in here but thought I would mention that we have three BFR's in 475/480, 475 linebaugh and 480 ruger.
Two are new and one used. New guns are $700.00 and the used one is $500.00
The used one has had the rear of the grip ground off so it is now much like the shape of the freedom arms grip. I like the modified grip shape better.

You have the best prices on new BFR's I've seen in a long time. What barrel lengths on those puppies? 6.5 or the 7.5

I believe they are all the 7 1/2"
The two new guns come in the factory soft case and I believe also come with a factory scope base.

My brother put a Bowen rear on his BFR. I do not believe he had to modify anything. Not sure about a bolt on replacement for the front, but replacing it is a fine idea.

I own a precision center with a 6.5 in. barrel in 45 colt. The chambers are cut so well it seems that the brass doesn't need any sizing after shooting. I've never shot a casull but it must really be something if its that much better than heavy 5 shot colt loads. Maybe you should consider buying one from Bullshop in 475 and another in 454 for about the same money as a precision center gun with the extra cylinder. What ever you do I'm sure you will be as satisfied as I am with mine.
