I am going to do some casting for my son'sS&W Model 29.

What sizing die do you recomend for the bullets? Lyman lists three different sizers for this bullet.

Slug the barrel and cylinder throats.

.430 is a good start.

I agree---that size works well in my Mo 29 as wel las my Ruger SBH...best to make up a batch of test rounds and see how they perform.

My model 29 digests .429 from W/W just fine from 429421 with pretty hot loads with no leading. Yours may be different though.

As with all things gun related, the answer is "if depends".

1. The early Mod. 29's had a barrel groove diamter of .429. The laters ones run .430.

2. The early Mod. 29 cylinder throats run around .432. The laters ones tend to run .430 to .431

3. The correct answer is to slug you barrel and cylinder throats and size your bullets to fit the cylinder throats as long as they are larger than the barrel groove diameter, which they will be.

4. Or, if you want to take the easy way, but a .431 sizing die and be done with it. It will work just fine in all the Model 29s.

most of my 44s prefer .430 a couple like them 431 but none shoot there best with 429 or 432.

+ 1 to what Charles said. I have several 629's that have .429 throats and yet .431 boolits shoot great in all with no leading.

My model 29 has .430 grooves, and .433 chamber mouths. I cast to .434" and size .433".
