Hi Guys. 1st post to forum and totally new to cast boolits.

Basically, I want to start casting bullets to save money (although I do realize that that is a dubious claim!), and because it just seems like fun! I've read everything on the forum re K31 reloading and bullet molds, but just ended up getting confused due to the overwhelming amount of data! I'm hoping you guys can help simplify things for me.

For my first bullet mold, I'd like to get something for the K31 as I plan to start shooting it in the CMP Vintage Rifle Matches. So accuracy at 200 yds is my primary concern. What bullet mold is best? I've seen some of the Group Buy molds (last one by Swede Nelson) and wonder if that would be best for what I need.

Any suggestions as to cast boolits and load info is very much appreciated!

I have had good luck with the RCBS 165 sil. and same with the Lee 155 ,Yes the later needs to be seated deeper to chamber well but accurate none the less. basicly any boolit that will cast small on the nose will fit the small/no throat, small bore K31 the various Lee's 150-200 gr'ers tend to drop at .300 or smaller by reputation. bit of advise you dont need a real zinger load for 200 yds something in the 1700 fps range is all you need imo .

Good luck with it,Tim

I'd go for the group buy mold but my lyman 165 sw does alright I just like the design of the group mold one.

Thanks Guys.

I went ahead and ordered the Group Buy 180 mold today since I'm afraid of missing out on something great. I'm thinking that I'll have to get a couple of the different molds y'all suggested and conduct my own tests. I guess that's part of the fun, isn't it?!

I'm sure I'll be back asking for more advice as a result....

Thanks again.

Just don't hold your breath waiting on a group buy if it is from Lee...it will be a while. You'll need one of the other molds to carry you over until it comes.

If the lead I ordered on another group buy arrives before the 180 mold, I'll definitely get another one sooner than later!
