Sorry if this is the wrong place for this. Feel free to move it if so.
I have a gent needing gas check boolits for a 58 cal T-Rex.
The boolit is no problem but I dont know if anybody is making or will make 58 cal checks. Anybody got any ideas?

Maybe PatMarilin can help, he seems to have the checkmaker down pat (no pun intended!!) in the smaller calibers, maybe he come up with one just for your specs.

Yeah, someone's going to have to make custom checkmaker dies.

What kind of velocity/pressure is the T-Rex pushing?
I'm surprised it would need a gc.

If nobody else finds you a source, drop me a PM with the ID, OD & skirt height that you want. Also let me know if you want to buy a die or just a handful of checks.

I'm not going to be able to get to it soon, but I should be able to do it for you if you have no other source. Right now, my day job has me busy & I have 3 side projects that would have to be finished before I started this.

If I do end up making it for you, I'd consider taking bull plate lube and/or speed green in trade.

I've seen a video clip of someone firing a T-rex before. That thing is a monster.

.............Seems to me that about 50 gas checks for that would be a lifetime supply :-) Let's see, a custom GC maker @ $75.00. That makes 100 gc's @ $0.75 ea not counting the material.

Has he considered paper patching? Might be easier than custom or semi custom gas checks. Of course then he need a boolit mould or source of boolits the correct size ofr paper patching.

Just a thought.

I have to run all this buy the customer. I asked him about what kind of pressure he would be running and he indicated it would be moderate so I will suggest to him that most likely he will not need a check.
My challange will be designing something that will fit the throat of his rifle.
A 750gn .585" something or other. Glad he is in another state and I dont have to shoot this one.
Blessings!

I shoot the NEI 1018gr RFN in my 577 BME bolt rifle. I keep thinking I need to shorten the mould to get it down to about 800-850gr so I can get the MV over 2100fps...
Then I come out of the haze and realize I have trouble controlling the 12lb rifle over that speed.

Someone here should design an RFN that would go about 800-850gr from WW and then get Pat to make a gas check tool for us. I'd buy an RG-2GC in a minute. .585" diameter, please.

I'd also take one with an as cast diameter of .552" for my wildcat 550 Gibbs.
