Decided to try some red dot in my springfield after reading some of what has been posted. I loaded 10 rounds each of 11, 12 and 13 grains with a bullet from my MM 120 gr FNGC sized to .309. The first group I shot at 50 yards measured a meesley 3/4 inch for 5 shots. That was with 11 grains of powder. The 12 and 13 grain loads opened up progressivley. After 30 rounds there was no leading and the bore was very clean. I had never given red dot a thought before. I'm definately glad I tried it.

I used to shoot a lot of red Dot , mostly 'cause that's the only powder I had on hand . As time went on I was able to afford other powders as well . One that I really liked a lot was IMR 4198 It gave great accuracy in my .308 without being position sensitive and the first shot was "in" the group instead of away from it . Not all the other powders I've tried could do that .
Good shooting sir ! Keep at it and enjoy .:-D

I've tried Red Dot in a few Milsurps, and a few higher grade rifles, and got "decent" groups at 50 yards (~<1"). But in all cases, at 100 yards, the vertical stringing was unacceptable. Now the only thing I use it for is gallery loads for the 25 yard indoor range.

I use 12.5 or 13gr of Red Dot (which depends on the scoop I use) in a number of my milsurp rifles. With mild loads (which 12.5 to 13gr is) and lead bullets, it is accurate enough for me. I can do marginally better with other loads and filler, but they are more expensive and take a lot longer to load. The Red Dot does not need any filler. So, I can load them with a scoop, quickly, cheaply, and easily. That is why I use it.
