Holster recommendations for a GP100?

Not really sure where to post this so feel free to move.

Hey everybody I am wondering if someone here could turn me onto a decent shoulder holster for my 4” GP100. Cooler weather should eventually get to me and I would like to start packing some real iron under my coat. I would like it to be one of those shoulder holsters that also attaches to my belt so that I do not have to chase my gun around my back when I draw. The local gun store only seems to have those plastic buckets designed to fit everything from a 380 on up to a scoped 50BMG.

There are a number of custom makers who can work a rig up for you. Generally there's a fairly large wait time and they can be expensive - but you usually get what you pay for.

I've always liked the old standby - a Bianchi X-15.

I like the look of the Bianchi X-15, but I am concerned about the fact that it claims to fit about 50 different handguns. Has anyone here used an X-15 with a 4” GP100? If so how is fit, comfort, draw, etc?

For nice weather packing, I like my Fobus holster for my 6" GP100. Nice easy draw. For climbing up and down trees for hunting or in snow, I carry the Triple K holster I got off of Rugers site. Both work great for me and didn't cost an arm and a leg.

I have a question about the Bianchi X15. How is the gun held in the holster? I see some sort of strap below the trigger guard, but the only thing it appears to do is put tension around the frame of the gun. The product description makes note of a dual spring closure devise, could some one please explain to me how that works? Does the dual spring closure allow for the gun to be held securely without a retention strap?

I have a couple X-15's I have used one for my 45 1911 and the big one I have used for a SBH and a FA 83 454 and 475L

Retention is acheived by 2 long(full length) flat spring strips of metal held in the leather. This pretty much closes the holster shut, making the little snap strap basically un-needed. This alows them to fit a lot of different guns...more or less

I kind of like the holsters but they can get heavy on your shoulder. Most of this is caused from the attachment to your belt..

The shoulder strap begins to act as a suspender for your pants and if you add several items to your belt (shells, knife, ect), all of this hangs from your shoulder. Very fatigueing:violin:Because of this the shoulder stap is constantly trying to move down to the point of your shoulder.

The way that the elastic strap crosses your back is a good way to carry concealed because no strap show if you wear an over shirt.

I began to really dislike the shoulder weight so I designed a holster that you don't have to chase around your back, doesn't have a $h**t-load of straps running every direction and Does Not attach to your belt on the gun side. The strap that attaches to your belt is oppisite of the gun so it serves to hold the shoulder strap in place.

My holster does have a small strap that crosses your chest so it is not the best for concealed. The strap is removeable but it does move around a little more without the strap.

I really like the look and idea of your holster. Have you ever made any with a strap that attaches to the gun side of the belt for the occasions that the front strap might draw unnecessary attention?

Yes, adding a strap or a loop to the back of the holster for your belt would be no problem.

I made the chest strap to be completely removeable...it is held in a slotted hole by a "Chap Knot/Button... Here's a pic of the back showing the Chap button

These were designed to be worn more as a back-up, or hunting holster.... For close concealment we may want to raise the carry position a little as well. As you can see the one pictured rides a little below my belt... It was made for a full size S&W629 6inch. So your 4 inch GP would be a smaller.

I have worn one of these a lot of miles without the chest strap, They ride quite nice and stay in place well...but without a coat the holster will roll out if you bend over.
