i'm seriously thinking of ordering this mould for my 357 herret. being kinda fond of big lumbering boolits, does anyone have any thoughts on a 215 to 250 gr. pp out of this round?

Depends entirely on how much patched boolit body room you have for your 357 Herret. Seat a boolit backwards and see what length is available (forward base of boolit to base of case neck), then compare to BABore's drawing.

Matter of fact I just got done patching 50 of them to try out in my buddy's T/C Herrett. If yours is in a T/C, you can expect a throat length of about 0.400 inches. T/C outdid themselves on this one. We're going to fit things up on Sunday. Using the 35 Whelen length, 216 grain slug, I suspect that we're not going to be into the neck too far and still be able to touch the lands. I'll try to get a pic of the dummy round.

The only other cast boolit that has worked in his 14" T/C has been the 358627 clone I made. Seated into the bottom CG, it actually touched something. The last I knew, he was using 35 grains of H322 with it and was getting 1 1/2", 100 yard groups. His normal load is a Hornady 180 gr SSP over H322. That load will shoot just under an inch consistently.

My buddy Rex was able to try a few groups yesterday in his 14" 357 Herett bbl. As I mentioned above, his has a 0.400" long throat. Using the 216 grain, 35 Whelen length boolit, he had light engagement with two driving bands in the neck. He lightly crimped into the 2nd lube groove. He tried a new-to-him powder, Reloder 7, for test loads instead of his normal H322. IIRC he started at 25 grains and loaded 3-round sets at 25, 26, and 27 grains. No pressure signs on any of them and accuracy tightened with eash increase. The 27 Grains load went about 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards. Still lots of work to do and other powders to try.

Having one more driving band in the case would be nice, but would mean a heavier boolit. As most Herett loads are 180-200+ grains, I think we'll hold right at the Whelen length for now.
