How many Kb's are in a MB? Or, if my computer is connected at 30.0 KBps, how low will it take to download a file of 3.0 MBs--assuming no problems? Thanks...BCB

1000 Kb = 1 Mb
At 28.8 kbps I usually get a 2.5 to 3 kbps download rate and thats is dialup.

Here's a little calculator:
http://www.easycalculation.com/bandwidth-calculator.php

Also Mb and MB have different meanings such as Kb and KB do.

Large B means bytes, small b means bits.

If you have a 3MB connection. It's a 3 Megabyte connection. A 3 Mb connection is a 3 Megabit connection. Just had to throw that in.

So, if I am connected at 28800 bps (28.8 kbps?), how long will it take to down load an update for Windows that is 3.1 MB’s in size? Seems like a very long time? That conversion website is nice, but now I am really confused!!! If I didn’t have to use computers for part of my work (Internet hook up) and to get to the Cast Boolit site, I dang straight wouldn’t have an Internet connection…BCB

So Let's do this:

You have a 28800 bits per second download speed. A 3.1 MB document is 26004684.8 bits. Divide 26004684 by 28800 and you get 902.94 seconds. Divide that by 60 and you get 15 minutes. So, you can download it in approximatly 15 minutes.

Thanks. That is the info I need. I can now do the conversions myself. When I would download updates, I never knew how long it was going to take. Sometimes it went into hours. No good as that ties my phone up too long and if someone is trying to get in touch with me they can't. I have downloaded stuff when I was sleeping at night, but still an emergency could occur and the phone would be busy. Dial up sure can be slow compared to whatever we have at work--it is instant. Thanks again...BCB

No problem..
That might sound complicated at first, but if you do it a couple times you can get the hang of it.
