What models of lever rifles will run at new blackhawk pressures in 45LC?
Looking for a companion for my Ruger.
Thanks:confused:

The Winchester 92s and 94s and replicas of. Also the Marlin 94s. I am sure there are more +P 45 levers out there but those are the ones that come to mind. You want to avoid the toggle link action rifles such as the 1860s, 66s, and 73s, they are great guns but they can not handle +P loads.

The best kind would be a front locking lever gun, such as the Browning, assuming it has a chamber small enough to prevent the case from stretching too much with a 40K cup load. The 94 Winnie I have has a chamber large enough for 457 boolits in a typical Rem/Win case, making the chamber way too big for any case shooting over say 25K for more than a couple of loadings. ... felix

I think you may find that with most rifles chambered in 45 Colt IIRC.

A Rossi Puma 92 in 45 colt or454 casull should work.

I have a Rossi Puma in 454 casull and it handles either 45 Cole or full power 454 with no trouble, and is very accurate.

the 92's are rear locking, don't stop me from using a pretty stiff load in them though.

O.S.O.K.

The 92 action is slightly stronger than the Marlin 94 action but for all intents and purposes you will be good with either. My personal choice is the Marlin 94. I've got 94's in .357, 44mag and 45 colt and all can handle +P and are great shooters.

I have a Rossi 92 and I'm quite sure it will digest any thing my Ruger Vacquero's will take.

Rossi 92, my 2 cents.

Good evening
Having read through the above I would wonder IF rear locking lugs are somewhat "Weak" why have we not read a BUNCH about model 92 blowups over the years. The 44-40 has the same basic case as 45 Colt and the 92 was chambered for that one since 1892. I have one made in 1893 and it still churns out any load I put to it.... and I think the steel used today is just a might better.
I would think the model 92's in 45 Colt and especially the 454 have been about long enough to cause serious damage by now.
I would think with all the NUTS out there running lawsuits factories would have put their barrels and receivers through some serious tests before releasing them.

Increasing headspace is the likely problem with 40K loads with rear locking mechanisms. Like you say, the tougher/harder steels should eliminate this problem for the most part in the number of rounds shot in one's lifetime. The 45 Colt is the suspect round, though, because of the large chambers associated, and not the rear locking aspect of the bolt. I shoot the 32 Winnie at 40K all the time, and that should prolly not be done for longevity, but I feel the gun will last longer than me anyway. Therefore, a so-what stance is taken. ... felix
