Went garage saleing this morning. Went to one that had some pistols and this was on the table. It looks like the top wood is origional, but the lower stock has been sanded and cut for bolt handle clearance. Also, it is split at the rear of the action. Action appears in very good shape and park is also very good. S/N is in the 4 million range and ends in 1 and that is the only number I found on the bolt. It has a RA 2-44 barrel on it, two groove that is in pristine shape, nice and shiny without a single pit.

Not too up on these guns, what can you tell me about them. Did I get taken? I paid $325 for it. thanks

I got far worse from the CMP a few years ago when I ordered one through their program. Price was $450 with a "as is, no return" policy. My heart sank when I opened the shipping box after Fed Ex delivered it.

A slightly modified 03-A3 in similar condition would run at least $100-$150 more at a gunshop in my area. I think you did just fine. Congrats on an excellent find!:drinks:

Some are being offered for as much as $800, I don't think they sell much (yet) at that
price level. I'd have jumped on it and I have a number of them already.
It will be a shooter.

You should be very happy to have such a nice classic rifle for that price.

If the stock is split (I can't see the split) it'll need to be replaced, but you should keep the original.

Sarco has drop-in replacement "C" stocks for around $165:

"C" stocks are getting to be hard to find. Many "repro" stocks will take lots of fiddling to get them to fit correctly.

The word "thief" comes to mind. :p Good for you! You got a nice rifle at a great price for todays inflated dollars. I'm jealous, not quite insanely jealous, but still pretty jealous.:bigsmyl2:

Barrel and stock are replacements. Stock looks like an early Keystone ... are there any marks in the cut-off recess or on the tip of the fore-end?

Tang split is easily repaired, and clearance will prevent it from happening again. Should be a great shooter, congrats!

You did very well. The average going price for those guns at the Atlanta, GA area gunshows starts at $650.00 and goes up now. You can replace that stock or repair it. Just do a search for 1903A3 parts in goggle if you want to replace.

Dave

You did fine. They are listed for a lot more. I have seen several at gunshows for $750 or a bit more. They haven't sold so that says they are a bit high for the condition they are.

Very good price for that rifle! Plenty of stocks around. That one could be easily fixed and stabilized by a couple of cross pins and stock bedding epoxy.

The receiver dates to 1942 or 43. I think the wartime records for those is a little iffy. You can check this link for many gun's Dates Of Manufacture.
