Hey guys,
As some of you know I've been fooling around with a 14" contender all summer.
I got it all dialed in and went looking for an antelope.
I have 2 doe tags, and decided to hunt with the contender exclusively.
After a dozen stalks on several animals, and one baffling miss at 135 yards the day before yesterday, I finally connected with this eating sized goat this morning at a lasered 150 yards. She was broadside to me and slightly quarting towards me. I shot her from the prone position, resting my gun on my backpack.
I hit her just behind the shoulder, but about 2 inches farther back than I would have liked.
At the shot, she hunched up and managed two wobbly hops before coming to a stop all hunched up. She stood like that for about 30 seconds, then toppled over.
When I gutted her, I saw that the bullet had taken out one lung and had just pulped her liver.
Now, before you ask, here's all the specifics:
Gun: T/C G2 contender. super 14" bbl, chambered in 414 supermag by OTT.
Load: 210 grain gold dot hollowpoint over 21 grains of 2400. (1660 fps chrono'd)
Optics: UAG(el cheapo) 2-7x32 pistol scope.

I liked it so well had to look again-- i rarely get an open shot --as matter of fact i consider 60 yards as open

OK, went out this morning to fill my other antelope tag.
I started out with an embarassing miss at 200 yards, caused by a flinch.
10 minutes later I redeemed myself with a 125 yard shot on this coyote that came cruising up, trying to figure out what those two ugly lumps(us), crawling through the sagebrush were.
30 minutes later I took this dry doe with one shot, from a rested position at just under 150 yards.
She was quartering towards me sharply, almost facing me dead on. My bullet hit her right at the top of the shoulder and traversed diagonally, then exited behind the last rib. She dropped like a rock at the shot.
Yup, looks like this barrel is a keeper!

Good work Dan.
Are you planning on using that same rig to fill the two deer tags you have?

I have 2 doe tags for deer and a buck tag.
I'd like to use the contender for the does, but will probably use the 7mm08 for the buck.
I'm trophy hunting this year, for the first time in a long time. I really want to bring home a nice buck for the wall.

Nicely done Dan.

I need to see about getting a tag for something, so I can put some meat in our freezer for the winter.

The 414 is on my radar. Never thought about it as an antelope getter, but why not. Very cool!
