I'm going to participate in the 459122 group buy.

Figure I should get the throat dimension to indicate the size of the mold.

The throat is .050" lnog.
Throat diameter is .4595".

I use 20:1 mainly and I shoot black powder or Pyrodex Select.

The bore is .457-.4575.

Should I order .461 or .462? Have to consider alloy shrinkage. Or is there something more to consider that I am overlooking?

Assuming you mean sizing die, measure the throat which is the part of the casting with no rifling between the chamber case mouth and where the leade (rifling) starts. That is where you want the cast bullet to "fit". I suggest a size equal to or .001" over.

Larry-

What I need to know is what size mold do I order for a .4595 throat?

I don't want to order a mold to fill the throat and then size smaller than that.

My bad, I misunderstood. I have a couple Rapine 460xxx moulds for my TDs and they drop at .462" with 1-16 alloy. 1-20 drops at .461. I size them at .4615" as I mostly use the 1-16 alloy and use them in my TDs with have .458, .459 and .461 groove depths. The .458/.459 barrels know no difference if the bullets are sized .459. In your case I'd look for a mould that casts 1-120 at .460-.461 and size at .460.

diameter is the easy ,you need to look to how the boolit is gonna engage the rifling.
the nose shape.
i'd go with the 460 size too.
but measure that bit where there isn't any rifling and then where there is. and fill that as much as possible.

So If I were to order a .462 mold, with a soft alloy, due to shrinkage, maybe .003, I would wind up with a .459 bullet. That sounds safe to me.

I don't think Miha will cut a .463 mold. I think there will be 2 sizes to choose from, but not sure.
