Is the cylinder supposed to lock up tight with the hammer down?
My cylinder will skip about 3/8" as the locator will not hold it.
In battery it is fine.
Is this normal??

Yes, it should lock up tight.
I have two Bisley's here, one .357 and one .45 LC.
Neither one exhibit the behavior you describe.

Something's wrong with it. If you haven't done a bunch of custom work to it, send it back to Ruger, they are good about fixing that stuff. Supposedly they will return your gun to factory specs though.

Methinks you opened the gate, turned the cylinder, shut the gate and had to turn the cylinder to lockup.
I see nothing wrong with the gun, it is you expecting the lock to be at the cylinder slot when you close the gate.
If however you cock the hammer and pull the trigger, the cylinder should still be locked, if it isn't, something is wrong. Knowing how a Ruger is built, I see nothing that can make a cylinder skip. It is not possible.

No- the cylinder latch is not locking the cylinder when the hammer is down.
Both my other SA's - Regular Blackhawks lock fine.
It does not matter which notch it is in either.
It does seem to lock when the hammer is back.

Weak Cyl. latch spring
Bevel to cyl notch to deep
Frame out of size(this one was brought up by Ruger tech.)

They need to look at it - I know it is not right.

That is what throws me off. How it locks when cocked but not with the hammer down. Under both conditions, the lock is in the same position.

I had this happen on a Seville with similar lock work. I found that the plunger in the hammer for the cylinder stop had a spring that was to long and causing the falling hammer to release the cylinder stop. When you cocked it it was locked up tight, but when you dropped the hammer it let the cylinder spin. Ruger will fix you up.

cocked the pawl will hold the cyl. from rotating back and the notch holds the other way.
the notch only looses it's grip on back spin.

Got her back today
Repaired ejector rod - didn't know it was damaged
Replaced cylinder latch and Pawl
Works fine and best of all - no charge.
Now I need a mould

They turned that one RIGHT around!

My favorite boolit in my BisHawk is Lyman #454424, the Keith-type SWC. Most of the time, I run it 900-1000 FPS ahead of enough Unique to enable that (8.5-9.5 grains).
