The other night I was straightening out my shed and noticed that I had a small quantity of .30 cal discards from one of my casting sessions. Being from a 200 grain mold I looked them over and dragged out my swaging gear and converted the wrinkled up .30 cal pro-jo's into swaged cores for my .45 Colt Bullets.

Once I had a handfull of nice shiney cores I proceded to make a bunch of .45 Colt jacketed hollow points. Now I can go practice at the local indoor range that only allows me to shoot TMJ's or Soft/hollow points that have the bases covered in Jacket Material.

My hearing must worse than my old eyes. I couldn't hear a word, but the large print, sure was easier to read. Tee Hee.

Great info.
Yep, Large red letters, almost as bad as some that can't find the cap lock key.

Knowing Grapeshot, I'd say that the red letters were to brag about his Artillery background and so his eyes could see the large print when he went back and checked out any replies.:kidding::Fire:

I was doing some casting this past weekend and made up several hundred .30 cal 200 grain bullets out of soft lead. Then I ran the .30 cal bullets through my core swaging die to make some .45 Colt JSP's.

While I was doing that, I remembered a box of hard cast .44's I had made up five years ago and no longer need as I got rid of all my .44's. So, I swapped out the core swaging die and put in my .454 core seating die with a dimpled internal punch to make up some base guard bullets.

Attaching the base guards, copper or brass disks with a hole in the center, was a straight forward process. Put base guard on top of interna punch, put .44 bullet on top of that and pull handle down. The external punch gave me my nose shape and the lead bullet changed shape and some of the lead bled through the hole in the base guard forming a rivet that holds the base guard in place.

Results, a .45 RN with a full diameter copper washer attached to the base. A quick run through a bath of Lee's Liguid Alox and they'll be ready to load and shoot by this time tomorrow.

I'll try to get some pictures posted.

Here are Canoneer's swaged bullets. He turned .44 SWC's he no longer needed into .45 bullets he could use.

Sorry the pictures aren't as clear as we'd like. the first one is the original .44 sized and lube with a .44 gas check installed next to a bare .44 cast bullet.

The second photo is the bare .44 and a .45 half jacket along with that same style bullet swage with the .45 half jacket into a wad cutter, round nosed and truncated cone style nose shapes.

The third photo is the original .44 with a .45 Base Guard in front of it and a swaged .45 Round Nosed Bullet with the .45 BG attached.

Thw fourth fhoto has the .44 shown with a .45 SWC that was swaged from the .44 aith a .45 Gas Check attached.

From what I could see, those look pretty good... a bit out of focus, but good...
