That I have has no zinc in this lead before I add it to my other alloy. I took some acid out of the car battery and put it on some unknown lead that came from a diver friend that collected a bunch of fishing weights. I also put some acid on a block of pure lead that I bought. I had no reaction at all on either of them. Does that prove there is no zinc in the unknown alloy?
Hydrochloric acid is what you will need to check for zinc. Your battery uses sulfuric acid. You can get some at any hardware store. Look were the sell the paint thinners. It may also be listed as muriatic acid.

Both Hydrochloric and Sulfuric acids quickly react with Zink and produce Hydrogen gas and soluble Zink compounds.
Furthermore, they would react slower with the Lead and produce insoluble Lead compounds...

and what kind of reaction is to be expected when the acid is put on the alloy? what will it tell you?
