View Full Version : GC boolits without the GC???
Hi guys, is there any significant downside to shooting GC bullets without the GC? I'm thinking about heavy for caliber GC designs for both high and low velocity shooting. :!:

On the low side there isn't much of a problem if you follow all the rules that make plain base bullets work . I shoot a significant amount of this type without leading or lack of accuracy .
The high side may be a good bit more tricky unless you want to try paper patching and other ways that protect the base .

These were shot at 120 yds. 45-70 peep sights, 350gr gc bullets with no gc. The first shot was the"9" . All 4 of the others were within 1" C to C. This was a mild load and the bullets were really tight. .460 in a .458 bore. This was Pedersoli Sharps, and is pretty typical with this rifle. I hardly ever use gas checks any more.http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q159/dbeeson3/DSC01104.jpg

I presume you plan on tumble lubing, or you will have to deal with a mess of lube on the base.

Check the Classics and Stickies section. Someone asks this question at least once a week.

Yes it can be done IF you keep vel. in the 22 LR vel. range,Accuracy can be quite good out to 100- 150 yds or so.
