Jeff223-----Jeff you want packaging ideas. For some strange reason a couple of guys in here get upset if they dont receive their stuff in pink package with ribbons. I wont mention who they are,so to be safe you might want to ship them all that way.

Jeff

I got in on the 'Lee 311-160TL 6 hole Plinker' group buy and it was sent out in the box it came in (taped well with clear tape). I think it was Lar45 that got the credit for that one, if my feeble memory serves me at all.

No ribbons on mine please.

What I have done is clear tape and then put on a shipping label. I went to office max and had a stamp made for my return address. With all the mold boxs that I've sent out, it has really paid off on the writers cramp.

.............Usually what has been done in the past is to hold the checks until the order is sent to Lee, then they get cashed. If someone wants out, you tear up their check. For shipping, the USPS the ONLY way to go. UPS will flat bend you over. By them if it goes outside the US, like Alaska or Hawaii it goes via air. To Alazka they wanted $23 shipping! The post office doesn't have a box really suitable for 6 cavity moulds, but the box Lee puts them in is fine. Like Lar45 did, tape'em shut and slap a label on it. I WOULD get a delivery confirmation number, but insurance costs too much unless the person you're shipping it to wants it. I think $50 insurance is $1.30 extra.

You can get Avery labels and print them with your computer printer.

Willbird
04-20-2005, 09:09 AM
Also you can setup to apply labels WITH postage included with help from USPS.com, this service also gives you free delivery confirmation, and on the same website you can order free priority and express mail boxes, labels, and tape that will be delivered free to your house. Even the people that WORK at the post office get boxes FOR their post office this way because it is faster and easier than how they normally order them.

another benefit of this postage included label is that the actual postage paid is hidden, some %$#@*&^%$ on ebay that buy things and bid without reading the ad get a bit honked if they pay an extra $.87 yep eighty seven CENTS postage over what it actually costs at the post office counter to ship an item that I boxed, labeled, and drove there.

There are several boxes that I'm sure the Lee mold box will fit inside avail.

I would suggest that you pay Lee up front after you get all the checks and take advantage of the 2% discount. It will give you a little padding if some little glitch comes along. You've probably got this figured out anyway.

If this is an exact copy of the other one, count me in for another. The very first load I tried in my Winny carbine shot just fine.... I am a great believer in buying something good while it is available....

You should be talking to Doug in the mold department at Lee (the man who will be cutting the molds). If you ask Doug he will provide you with cardboard over-sleeves that go over the standard Lee boxes to provide protection during shipment.

He always just gave them to us before ...... if asked.

...........You might be surprised. The 6.5mm Kurtz I sent in to Lee a couple weeks ago took just shy of 3 months I think it was. A somewhat specialized design for a narrower interest group. Got 10 orders in a week. Then one or 2 and then nothing for a week. Went along like that until about 20 and in 2 weeks I ended up with 34 orders.

Folks, I want to get in on this buy, but before I do, I need to ask some questions. Is this boolit (C358-180RF) AND the Lee six hole mold really good enough to justify the cost? OR is this just an average boolit, fair mold, but it has the "I have one and you don't" aura about it?

I'm not trying to stir things up. I've never shot any of these, and if they are just an average design, then I'll pass. However, if they are that good, I'll send my check today.

I trust you guys enough to REALLY value your opinions. As far as I know, I have never gotten bad advice from anyone on this board. So, do I order one, or not?

Leftoverdj
04-29-2005, 05:02 PM
Bill, it's THAT good if you are shooting a carbine or a .357 Max. I dunno I would bother for a .357 Mag revolver. The first order was for 45 moulds and most of us who got one shared bullets. I have not heard a negative report yet.

I'm shooting a Maxed Handi, driving them at just under 2000 fps, and steadily shooting groups of 5/8" and under at 50 yards with casually inspected bullets. When I do get a flyer, the group still stays at or under an inch. I see no reason why it would not do about as well from a .35 Rem, but I don't have one of those at the moment.

You might have to do a little fiddling to find the right powder charge for that big .350 Mag case, but groups over 2 MOA would surprise me a lot more than groups under 1 MOA.

45 2.1
04-29-2005, 05:48 PM
I've tried it in four 35 Rem rifles. When trimmed to spec and seated to the crimp groove, all the rifles nose engraved the bullet and did not chamber.

Leftoverdj
04-29-2005, 10:23 PM
Do any other handles fit the Lee 6 cavity mold?

I am using non-Lee handles, but I am not quite sure what they are. They can't be Lee because they are steel and I had them before Lee started making 6 cavity blocks.

...........Bill, The Lee 6 cavity moulds are an order of magnitude (never understood what that meant:roll:) better then their 1 and 2 cavity jobs. The sprueplate is anodized and 1/4" thick. The sprueplate handle has a cam on it to ease the initial cutting of the sprues.

The blocks are aligned vis steel pins into steel tubes. No steel on aluminum interface for rapid wear. They are NOT cast iron or steel blocks. Careless use or dropping them can cause wear and damage. Yet they're not the dainty units you're familiar with. I have several 6 cavity Lee moulds and have gotten nothing but mountains of good boolits out of them.

Since sliding or rotating parts are aluminum, they still need to be lubed judiciously to prevent galling or rapid wear. AFAIC they are a fine deal for their cataloged numbers. Remember that part of that $56 price for these custom units is your shipping cost, and these designs are available no other way.

I'm not going to be able to swing a buy in this group purchase, so maybe one later. However, I would like to try a few of this boolit. If anyone has 2-300 they would sell, no GC, unsized, and unlubed, please PM me. I also posted this in the buy and sell forum.

Lots of folks sit the fence until the river boat pulls up to the dock and starts loading freight. There is always a last minute mad rush when the "all aboard" whistle blows ....

Formula is when you are a bit past the 15 order point you blow the whistle and tell the boys to hustle up or they will miss the boat. You will have at least 5 come in late anyway.
