Im thinking of getting a 300 whisper barrel for my encore and would like to know if anyone here has tried cast bullets in it yet?
The barrels are 1-10 twist so what would be a good cast bullet mold to try in this?
Looking mostly for 160-240gr bullets going between 1000 and 1600fps.
it will be used for no more than 200 yards.

I wouldnt try shooting anything larger than a deer with it, its a 221 fireball necked uo to 30caliber, it will reach speeds up to 2000fps with a 130gr bullet but its main purpose is sniping with a silencer at subsonic speeds. said to be quiter than a 177 air gun with a subsonic 240gr HPBT with 7gr of AA9.

You might look at the RCBS 165 Gr Sil-bore riding design. I have had good luck with it in everything from 30 Carbine to 300 Win mag. Just remember, to keep the MZ vel down around 12-1700. Very good for things 100 yards and closer. Just remember you won"t be shootin' for that big buck in the next county. It's great for the 300 Savage or the 7.62 X 39........:lovebooli

It is a GREAT platform for cast boolits. I shoot a 215gr Mountain Mold boolit ahead of 8.8 AA9 and alot of the Saeco 311/165gr boolit. If you get the barrel and want to shoot heavies at subsonic velocities make sure that you get the 1 in 10" twist.

I'd recommend the original twist that J.D. Jones used of 1 in 8" twist. This will shoot the 240gr. jacketed as well as the heavier cast with no problems.
My 1 in 8" twist barrel shoots much better than the 1 in 10" did. Could have been another cause for the difference but I would go for the faster twist.

You can shoot the lightweight jacketed and cast with the 1 in 8" twist with no problems also.

I haven't shot anything bigger than a deer with the 300 Whisper, but if you where under 50 yards with a heavy cast boolit I think it would take a cow elk, but there are better choices.

This is something to just play with, it will be cheap to shoot with cast bullets at subsonic levels and great for pest control, probably wont shoot it at anything bigger than a bever when I get a chance and have the loads worked out for it.
I ended up getting the 1-10 twist barrel so I guess I will have to try a little of everything to see what works best.
Anyone have any of the RCBS 165 bore riders they would like to sell, could use about 50 to work up some loads.
I have the new NOE 180gr 311041 mold on order and a couple of sizers in .309 and .310 so if you have something else you would like to trade let me know, always interested in trying a different bullet.
