Crazy question maybe, but bear with me:veryconfu
I am woking with a Lee 150gr 30 cal fp gas check cast from WW and water dropped. Lars 2500+ lube.
I have a good accurate load with this boolit for my 94 30-30 moving along at 1920pfs +-. Powder is WC846.
I am wanting to develop a load with this same boolit for my 308 and 30-06 handi rifles. From what I see in the Lyman 48, the speed is going to be about the same as the 30-30, give or take a few. Heres the ???........
Will there be any difference in the preformance of this boolit regardless of whether it is fired from a 308., 30-06 of 30-30. The range will be the same as far as the ballistics, right. I am wondering If I should just use the old 30-30 and not worry much about the other loads.
I guess what I am asking is that just because the 30--06 os superior with J words, doesnt mean you can hot rod it with cast, right?? Although I will probably develop a load for the 30-06 just so I can shoot cast in it.
Oh well, maybe I am just rambling unneccasarily...............:veryconfu

Same bullet, same speed = same results. The deer won't read the headstamp on the case and die quicker.

In my limited experience, 1900 to 2000 fps is about optimum with similar bullets.

My thoughts too.

Although you may get the same terminal results, it may not be accurate in the other guns. If you can't hit'im you can't kill'im.

As has already been said, you won't likely get any more velocity with accuracy out of the .308 or .30-06 with that boolit.

However, you'll need more powder in the .308 than the .30-30 to get the same velocity because the cartridge case has greater volume. You'll need even more powder in the .30-06, since it's case is 0.498" longer than the .308 case.

You may even have to go to a different powder, like 2400 or Unique. I don't know if WC846 is position-dependent. Many powders don't "like" to be fired from a largely empty case.

The ballistics are going to be the same with the .308W and your '06, perahps even a little less if accuracy is a priority with that particular cast bullet. I would tell you why but then two or three of my nemisis on this forum would come over and besides deriding me would pump you full of hope that you may shoot that bullet accurately at high velocity. However, you won't. You may shoot it quite accurately up through 1950 fps or so. I'd suggest you try the top end slower buringing pistol powders like 2400, 4227, 4198 or 4759 (using a 1/2 - 3/4 gr dacron will also be advantages) if that velocity level is your goal with accuracy.

Given a better design of bullet for the task (311466 o or the 160 gr LBT bullet) you can "hot rod" both the .308W and the '06 using a few other loading techniques also.

I was thinking IMR 4064 in the 308 and 06 The 30.30 is about all I have had good results with the 846 in.
