I fially got to the range to try my 31141's over a couple of different weights of 4598 pd. The rifle cycled at 30 and thisn is where I wound up with my best groups. Went up to 33 grains and groups opened up to around 4 to 5 inches. At 30 grains i got about 2 inch groups. Anyone had similar exprenceswith this bullet. Same bulet in my 03 under 16 grains of 2400 on a good day will give me an 1 to 1 2/2 inch groups. Using javelina lube. Plan on buying some BAC when I go through all my other lube.

Did you mean to type 4895 powder?

An old Lyman #45 reloading guide indicates that 16.5gr of Unique with that boolit was pretty accurate in their test rifle, which was a universal receiver with a 1:10 twist and 26" barrel with .308 groove diameter.

I don't have that particular boolit mold - yet!

The 30 gr load is pushing the 311041 out of the 10" twist M1 at the top end of the RPM threshold at around 1850 fps or so. The 33 gr load is pushing it over the threshold and that is why the accuracy goes. Yours is the age old question regarding accuracy in the 10" twist '06 that has sprked many threads. The simple fact is you are going over the RPM threshold for the bullet/alloy/powder/twist combination you are using. If you want to stay with the same componants then I'll suggest you back off to 28 gr of 4895 and use a 3/4 gr dacron filler over the powder and work up in 1/2 gr increments until accuracy goes south again. You probably won't get better than 2" accuracy but the overall improvement in consistency of ignition will prove benificial in the long run.

Contrary to what some think the RPM threshold is not a "limit'. It can be pushed higher. For you to do that I'll suggest you might switch to a slower powder like H4831SC with the dacron filler. This might give you the same 2" accuracy at a little higher velocity, perhaps upwards of 2100 fps. Start at 46 gr and work up to 48 gr in 1/2 gr increments. 48 gr of H4831SC has about 33,000 psi chamber pressure so the attendant gas port pressure is not high enogh to damage the oprod. There are other slow powders like RL19 and the 4350s that work well also and might be worth a try.

Yes Iam sorry about the number fumble 4895. Also thank you Larry for the info, I was trying to see what I could do with the powder I have on hand . I would like to continue with 4895 and lower charges can I get away without dacon filler. Just don't like using it.

Good enough then, sounds like you've a good load at 30 gr that fits your needs. Enjoy:-)
