I found some bulk liquid Alox (labeled Xlox) on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Liquid-Xlox-Cast-Bullet-Lube-NEW-32-oz-bottle-Wht-lbl_W0QQitemZ220470058152QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Def aultDomain_0?hash=item33550a1ca8&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_2084wt_1165

Since this stuff is so cheap, could I just melt some beeswax, pour in an equal amount of Alox, and end up with the 50/50 NRA lube?

Xlox is a similar (equivalent) product to Lee liquid Alox and is sold by one of our friendly Vendor Sponsors (Lar's stuff, see link at bottom of page).

The nra formula was for hard Alox (like the hollow stick lube) and beeswax. If you want the
nra formula just buy it from him, you can't make it cheaper than he sells it.

You can mix Xlox with beeswax for a boolit lube but it won't be the same as 50/50.

Go to Lars White Label Lube site and look for his Xlox 350, from his site:

"Xlox 350:
I now have Xlox 350 for sale in 1 quart cans for $10.50. Holds approx 2 lbs.
350 is the current replacement for 2138F and is used for making 50-50 or similar lubes. This has the consistency of a light grease and can not be turned into Liquid Xlox."

2138 isn't being made anymore..
the xlox is alox just lee wanted to sue and glen definately isn't getting rich making lube.
the xlox does mix rather well with b-wax and is exactly what he uses..
i just cut back on the xlox instead of 50-50 i use 70-30 and kind of dab a bit more in if it don't look right.

I don't think it was Lee, I'm pretty sure it was Lubrizol that holds the rights to the name Alox. Kinda went through the same thing with the Group buy years ago. Something about you have to be an authorized agent before using the word.

If you really want to make the original formula 50/50. You make it with 50% beeswax, 46% Alox/xLox 350, and 4% MicroCrystalline wax. The original called for Alox 2138f which was a mix of 93% alox 350 and 7% micro wax. Since 2138F is no longer made, you can effectively recreate it with the above formula.

it probably was lubrizol, it's been a while since glen told me who it was, when i was over there.
80 sticks of lube and 4 lbs of xlox lasts a while,i will probably be going over again this winter.
to find glen easier than the evil bay just scroll down the page here and go to lars 45's stuff

Wiljen-Are the proportions you note above by weight or volume? Where does one get MicroCrystalline wax? Thanks.

By Weight.

and look for Renaissance wax as a good source of MC wax. You'll find it as a furniture or wood working polish.
