Just picked up a navy stamped, gibbs boxed 45-70.

It's going to need a new stock. That little thin jaw breaker that's on there has to go.

How about a detachable cheek piece to start. Cheaper and faster than a new stock, so you can get out to the range. I believe they are made for the Garand and have seen them on 1903s.

If you're talking the L-E 45-70, then yeah, it need the comb raised. I'm still working on that for mine. It shoots pretty fair though from what I've seen using the Gould HP. It's heavy enough to soak some recoil and the stock line isn't bad. But they used those dumb HIGH open sights and that low comb. They could have designed it better.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick up a monte carlo synthetic.

Trigger is surprisingly good. Magazine is going to need a little tinkering too, it hangs up the bolt on the last round ejection.
