I will soon be casting Lymans 200g 303 boolits and will run them thru a Lee .314 size die. Will the Hornady 30 caliber GCs work-or do I need Lyman? The reason I ask is that the Hornadys are much cheaper than the Lymans.

There are also group buys from a maker that sells here on this board (Gator checks), and at lower than I've seen Hornady checks for lately.

What NuJudge said.

Gator Checks - Top class, quality checks at a more than fair price.

Deliverd via Cast Boolits by our "one and only" gas check purveyor, Mr Gas Check himself - Blammer!

4296, To answer the question you asked, the .30cal. Hornady GC's will indeed work with the Lyman CB (#314299?). They'll also work with CBE designs for the .303Br.

Modern Lyman checks are Hornady checks. The old brass Lyman checks didn't crimp on. You have to be careful not to seat those below case necks.

I have seen boolit molds cut for the old Lyman checks that dropped shanks too big to easily accept Hornady checks. On the other hand, I recently bought an older (black-and-gray striped cardboard box) Lyman 280473 mold that would not accept the old Lyman .270 checks I inherited from my Dad, but would take Hornady's. I wonder if Lyman mismarked the box of those old checks.

Hornady makes the gas checks for Lyman who puts their "cut" on the top. IMHO its a royal ripoff. I make my own as do a lot of other forum members. The saving is huge. If you prefer to buy them you should look up Gator Checks/Blammer and see what he needs in comparison to the others. Might as well keep things in the family. Check out the vendor sponser forum. LLS

Actually I thought I was. But I tried that too and no luck. I'll try again later on.
Thanks
