O.K. guys, I just bought a like new, unfired, 30 year old Dan wesson 4 bbl. set.
My FFL dealer says to be very careful because they have a problem cracking the frames. Has anybody heard of this, this is the 15-2 model. I have never heard of this before. I have seen many times where DW is the sweetheart of the silhouette crowds. Partly because of their out of the box accuracy, but also their frame strength.
Several of the custom ammo manufacturers rate their ammo strictly for Ruger, Freedom Arms And Dan Wesson.
Not to say there might not have been a small run with QC problems, but not for a general run on them.

Thanks, John

Sounds like a 'tongue in cheek' comment by the dealer, knowing you bought something real tough.

I have shot a dan wesson 44 mag with real hot loads for the last 30 years and never had one problem. Also a 375 super mag. I doubt you will ever wear that 357 out even with a staedy diet of hot loads.
Sounds like you bought a pistol pack, I love these guns.

No problem here - 1 30yr old and one I found NIB last year.
Oh - the 44 either

I have a 30 year old DW 15-2 and it has seen some Planet-wrecker loads over the years. I don't shoot those kind of loads anymore but my pistol is as tight as new.

Greetings
I bought my 357 Dan used in Chattanooga in 1978 and it has digested thousands of rounds plus went 2 seasons as my IHMSA revolver... NO cracks. Not my 41 mag nor the 375 SM either.
I also hang about the Dan Wesson site and NEVER have read of a cracked frame.

I have had several Dan Wessons.
It used to be a pleasure to drive to Monson to get a trigger job, or timing. They were real great to deal with.
I have never heard of cracking.
I shot IMHSA with mine for several years. Ground shakers they were. No issues.
The one I have now, I had Dan Wesson, before they became CZ, make a full shroud for my 6" barrel. Just the addition of the extra weight made it point real well!
Now, I have a full underlug Dan Wesson 15-2.
Sweet, sweet, sweet.
It is my favourite, and the one I would carry if I had one choice.
Never heard of cracking though.

MANY thousands of rounds haven't phased my old 15-2 in the slightest. Sounds like he must have been joking.

The silhouette shooters would have uncovered this long ago. Just a guess, did you buy the revolver on the internet & have the dealer do the transfer? This might be a case of "sour grapes".

Only real problem that they had that I can think of was with the .357 maximum & that was gas cutting of the topstrap ,think that was also a problem on Rugers too with the .357 max

Never heard of this either and I've been shooting silhouette for nearly 30 years, can't imagine where your dealer would get such an idea.

The single biggest reason for the popularity of DW in silhouette was the fact that they didn't shoot loose using full power loads like the Smith's and Colts would. The barrel tensioned at both ends resulting in a very accurate revolver didn't hurt either.
