Howdy all,

Went to my Gunsmith's the other day, Fellow SASS shooter, and found out that he was getting out of Long range shooting because of eye problems. He was selling his personal Browning1885 38-55. It has the Pedersoli Soule sight, Action job, Aftermarket Triggers?, long barrel and looks brand new. Price was $1300. Laid it away on the spot and put my Wesson and Harrington 38-55 Target Rifle up on the Cowboy board.

Did I do good?. What kind of aftermarket triggers are available? Anything I should know about these rifles that is way different from what I was shooting? I will be Shooting BP.

Good Move!! You can't go wrong with a Win 1885 High Wall.

Only thing I would look to change for now is the rear sight.

Have Fun Shooting,
Jon

Was it one of the modern 1885 Highwall Hunter variety, or an original Winchester action? Either way it sounds like a good deal, and only you have to be happy.

38-55 is one of my personal favorite calibers. Its easy to get cases, dies, moulds, etc, and works well with smokeless or BP.

yIf that has a Badger Barrel you have a real winner there. My buddy has one of those and I have fired about 100 rounds through it. It is a pleasure to shoot and accurate way beyond your ability.

He had some trigger work done on it and with two triggers the final one goes off with a breath of pull on it. The sights are wonderful and the rifle has enuf heft that it is not a bear to shoot for a long session.

Enjoy it and you will not regret this purchase. That Browning is one of the unsung bargains still available around at this time. My buddy bought a custom reamer and opened up the chamber to 40-90 because the original chamber was buggered at the rear end and he of course kept the reamer.

When I get mine in December it will get the same treatment and trigger job.

Sam, methinks you did very well. Just sent my high wall action to the gunsmith and when it gets back will be in 38-55. Still have to get the wood and I cheated as I'm having a redfield international rear sight installed along with an international globe front sight. I don't compete but have had the action since my first daughter was born and figgured its about time I did something with it. Frank
