:-) Hey I did it, got a Lyman thermomiter, stuck it in my cast iorn melting pot (with lid) and got the temp up to about 750/800 degrees, took awhile, i'm using a coleman campstove. Let em fry for about 20 minutes at the high temp, quenched them in water. I can even squash them between my fingers with very little pressure. Also appears to have burnt off the scale so will see how they swage out. Just thought I would pass this on. Thanks to all for a GREAT forum. Dave

Can't remember where I heard it, but it was suggested somewhere that You can reduce scale even further by heating the brass in a stainless steel foil envelope or packet. This keeps the air away from the brass. I tried it in a friend's tempering oven and it worked fine. The stainless foil was reused several times.
