Does anybody other than Lee make a 4 or 6 cavity mold for .357, 148gr, DEWC's?

Thanks,

Jeff

Lyman used to have a good one but no longer carry it. I have a six cavity dbl ended W/C mould and NO it is not for sale, sorry:

This picture is of a mould that is pictured on TexasFlyboy's site (thanks, my friend) and is of a four cavity H&G mould. It IS a shooter, too. Here's a 92 on the slowfire target at 25 yards:

That was shot from my 686 (6") and is representative (sometimes better, sometimes not[smilie=1:). It was shot standing. It is my standard load - first band loaded out with a light crimp over 3.5 grs of Bullseye in .38 Special cases. The solid base wadcutters seem to shoot more accurately with a somewhat heavier charge of Bullseye than the commercial HBWC's. With the front band seated out, it helps to align the bullet with the chamber on a revolver. Used in the Model 52 S&W Auto Pistol, it has to be seated flush with the end of the case. Then, perhaps 3.2 grs will work better with the bullet deeper seated. This bullet with the load above will shoot well under 1" (about 3/4" off a rest at 25 yards). I seat the bullets with the sprue up. It's a bit ugly but that way I get PERFECT bases. Accuracy is the name of the game with these match bullets.

Dale, Thanks for the reply. I have that mold but it is a single cavity and kind of slow.

Calamity, I'll check out the Saeco.

I'll try a WTB in the sales section.

The Lyman version of the H&G 251 was (not any longer in production) #358063. They are identical. I've got both, in four cav and use use them for my M52. I seat it flush with the case mouth. I had a cup shape turned on the bottom of the sizer "I" die so that the lube wouldn't get into the BB. I use 2.6 grains of 700X and get 90-95 scores at 25 yards. Lube (NRA 50/50) in one groove only. With WW they drop out of molds at .357 so I just run em thru a 357 die for the lube. When I tried 2.7 grains of the 700X the groups started opening up. You're right, performance guns and match bullets are sensitive combinations. I like your idea of shooting them base first and having the noseflat as a clean base. Never tried that, but I will. Thanx for passing the idea along. LLS

le Loup Solitaire (the lone wolf, no doubt:mrgreen:);

Ed Harris suggested loading base first in an excellent article he wrote on The Cast Bullet Ass'n Forum. It makes absolute sense and DOES shoot better.

Dale53 is that base first in to the case or base first out of the case?

The sprue end of the bullet is first out of the case. You can SEE the sprue end in the loaded round. That way, you get PERFECT bases where it counts (the base of the bullet is the "steering end" of the bullet - quote from the great Harry Pope).

There are those who will complain that the loaded ammo is "UGLY" - well, my priority is to have the most accurate ammo I can. The difference is not night and day, but IS noticeable when fired off a rest (fewer flyers and more consistent groups).

I always put the sprue end in the case only because it seemed like a good idea. Guess I will have to try the sprue end out.
