Remember the GB .30 plain base that took so long to get?

I cast up a lot of em but they seem very wiggly in the 30-06 case. Even in that long neck you can't seat them deep enough to keep them from wiggling. Don't remember shooting any of them. I'm thinking of melting them and casting .30 GC boolits.

Anybody shoot these over 16 to 18 gr of 2400 and if so what kind of accuracy do you get?

Thanks.

Wiggly is no good. Have you measured the diameter? What dies and expander are you using? Have you slugged the bore?

Which 30 PB GB? Been a few IIRC. What do they weigh? What are they dropping at? What are you sizing them to?

MikeSSS :

Whatever your answers are to Bret4207's questions ( which are all very relevant ), I'd think that 18.0 grs. of 2400 with a plain based bullet is way too fast. Try 9.5 grs. or 10.0 grs. of Unique with a plain based .30 cal. bullet in the 06'.

your brass might have lost it's anneal and isn't sizing down for you anymore,it's springing back to fired dimensions.
the first thing i do when i see an issue is start measuring things.

Ben- Thanks, I completely missed that load! 10.0-12.0 Red Dot may work too, start low.

Mic the brass and the bullet. One or both have to be pretty far off to wiggle in a sized case. Unless they are for paper patching?

Mike SSS, Are you refering to the 30-150 TL-PB group buy mold? If so, I have it and you're correct, the CB's are indeed "wiggly" when seated to be engraved by the rifling. Mine weigh only ~139gr. and cavities 1 - 3 drop CB's that aren't the same weight as cavs. 4 - 6, but all mike ~.316" - .317". (I don't size them.) The wiggling isn't due to work hardened brass or poor reloading technique, but by the lesser diameter of the [CB] design around the tumble lube grooves. I cured the problem by seating them deeper in the cases so that all lube grooves are within the case neck. As for loads, try 6 - 7grs. Bullseye or Hodgdon Clays (original); 8 - 9grs. Unique; or 9 - 10gr. Blue Dot. You can add or subtract 1gr. from these loads as bore leading and accuracy dictate. Sorry, but I can't help you with 2400 charges.
