I've been shooting a lot these past couple weeks, trying to develop a load that I can be really happy with. I've fired lots of 10-shot groups trying to dial this in. This morning I fired two 10-shot groups at 100 yards. They are slightly different loads. The only differences being that one of them has a Fed 210 standard primer, and the other has the 210 match primer. The other difference is that the 210m load is seated .020 more into the lands.

Otherwise, I'm using a 180 grain LBT spitzer that weighs just shy of 200 grains after being lubed and gaschecked. BHN is 25. 49 grains H4350 with 1 grain of polyester batting filler. Velocity on the second group, the one with the standard primers, is right at 2,400 fps (approx. 10-12 feet from the muzzle). The other load was 2,354 fps. I don't know why the big difference.

Accuracy was the best of any of the 10-shot groups that I've fired with these loads to date: 1 11/16 for the first group with the match primers and between 1 3/8 and 1 7/16 for the second group with the standard primers. My previous 10-shot groups were printing around 2 inches on average, or maybe a little less. I don't believe that these two groups are representative of the true accuracy potential, as I think I got a little lucky with them. The second group had 9 shots that were between 13/16 and 7/8.

BTW, I ran these all the way up to 2,630 fps, and they still held 3-3.5 inches for 10 shots at 100 yards.

Nice progress! I am just starting to work on loads for my 30-06. What diameter are your grooves and what did you size them to? What gun are you testing these in? Mine is an Rem 742 Auto and I have trouble getting it to cycle unless I get up in the velocity then accuracy gets worse. Also, what lube? Thanks for the update.

Groove is .308; bore is .303 (yeah, what happened there?!)
This is a McGowen 24 inch barrel (1-10 twist) that I throated out with the .310 throater from 4-d rental. It has a very gentle taper (1/2 degree). I am shooting .310 boolits, but I am going to eventually try .3105 to see if they'll chamber without hanging up too bad.

The gun is otherwise a Savage 114 Classic with the monte carlo (raised cheekpiece) stock. I snatched one of them up before they quite making them. Maybe they still do; I don't know.

Lube is a mixture of beeswax and Amsoil 2-cycle oil.

Very nice. Hope to graduate to casting for my big centerfires one day (.308 & .30-06).

OK, I'm using beeswax/vasolene. Grooves .3085 and boolits .3095. I might want to go a tad larger but since I can't put metal back in the sizer if I enlarge it I will try with this size first. Considering a batch of Felix lube to see if I get major improvement.
