That is a NICE looking rifle! Have you slugged the barrel yet to see what you need for a mould?

That new "Fat .30" might work here, depending on the measurements of your barrel.

I disremember the thread about the Finnish Mosins, so I'll add this in here - anyway, I picked up a M44 Russian carbine in arsenal refinish condition with excellent bore, and the side-folding cruciform toad-stabber on it. Took it to the range today. The loads that the Finish infantry rifles put into 2 1/2" This carbine puts into 4 to 5" at 100 yards. First tried 5 with the Prvi Partizan factory 180 gr. JSP - 4".
311413 169 gr. with 18 gr. MP5744 - 4",
311291 175 gr. with 20 gr. XMP-5744 - 4",
311335 210 gr. with 22 gr. 4198 - 4",
311041 175 gr. with 26 gr. 4197 - 5".

To be fair, I had some trouble focusing on the front sight and felt I may have lost it now and again causing a wide shot. The weather was great - 70 degrees F. and bright sunshine - If there hadn't been another shooter at the range I would have stretched out on the grass for a nap in the sun, like a lizard on a rock.

I feel I should try 311299 in this gun with a size diameter of .310 - this bullet bore-rides just about right, stuck into the muzzle, whereas a slight looseness can be felt with the 311291.

If you ever get a chance get the lyman #314299. Normally casts .314 on the body and about .303-.304 on the bore riding section. My finn model 27 loves this bullet. frank

The triangle stamp with the 1 inside it above the 1942r stamp is the East Germany refurbishment mark meaning 1st quality weapon.

That's a nice looking Mosin Nagant especially for a 1942 wartime production rifle. I've seen more than a few that looked like the Russians were machining the receivers with a hammer and chisel. I guess if it would go bang it was acceptable.

Where did you find it?

Gotta second Frank's nomination for 314299. I've several MNs myself and have played with numerous others over the years. Two of them came home from SEA with me so I've always been kind of partial to them also. The Finn made barrels are almost always tighter than combloc bores. 311299 shoots great in the Finns but 314299 sized .314 shoots a lot better in both. Sometimes the chamber neck will only alow a .312 size bullet though. Best to size as large as the chamber neck will alow in the combloc rifles do to the design of the throat/lead of the chamber. These are fun rifles to shoot and I've won our local military rifle match with my Finn.

Lots of chamber size variations with MNs too, enough to drive you mad. I solved it by NS only and having dedicated brass for each rifle. I shortened a Redding .284 Win bushing die just enough so the case shoulder goes up to the die shoulder when the case is in a shell holder and it bottoms on the die. Then I use different bushings for NSing, .311, .333 and .335 bushings have covered all .310 through .314 bullets in Norma and Lapua cases. Thus I can size the neck to just give the right tension for each rifle. The wider fire formed 7.62x54R cases are a perfect fit in the shortened .284 Win die. It didn't take much to shorten the die, pretty easy acually and makes for a very versatile die.

I have a Finn 39 that I turned into a sniper. Damn close copy of the original except more modern scope and the mount is by Choate. Just saying it looks alot like a vintage one. The Lyman 314299 is the bullet I'm using too and I found a nice load of surplus 860 that chews a pretty ragged hole at 100 yards. I'm satisfied with it so probably won't do any bullet changes. My groove is .310 and I'm sizing to .313.
