I'm making a push through mold today and want to knurl the bullet.:groner:

Instead of figuring a way to knurl the inside of the mold and not being able to push the bullet out, it seemed like I could just put the plain sided bullet on a piece of glass and roll it with a coarse diamond tooth file.

Anyone ever try something like this?

Yes. People have tried it. But, not me.

I think a checkering file would give you what you want.

Other wise I think you'll just wind up with slots on the boolit.

Curious as to why?

Corbin makes a tool for knurling a boolit.

No real reason other than I ain't done it. Some seem to have great success with knurled bullets.

Give it a shot and let us know. I'm thinking it would make the bullet a tad bigger too which could be a good thing.

A roll between two coarse files does a decent job.

I think this is on my list of things never to do.

If knurling a boolit is anything like knurling other metals in a lathe, the diameter will grow a bit......which might be good for a cast boolit. That's why they used to knurl pistons....to make 'em fit.

Try rolling the boolit between two coarse files....one on the bench, then push the boolit across with the other. Should work.

We fuzz-up 69cal. round balls in NSSA smooth bore shooting competition to just under bore diameter using two coarse files. The fuzz helps to hold the Lee liquid alox lubricant. Shoots well with 45 grfff swiss................................jim

I put my boolits on a formica covered table and roll them under a bastard cut pipewelder's file. One role fore and one roll aft and they're done. They get tumble lubed and then pushed through a sizer die. That's it. They're ready to load and the surface carries a lot more lube than just with rings and grooves.
