Got some testing done the other day on a couple of my newer rifles and I'm encouraged by the results.

I shot some milsurp 140 FMJs through the Gustav and had 3 groups that I could cover with a dime @ 50 yds. I realize that 50 yds. is no big accomplishment, but a dime size group is a pretty fair start, I think. Especially considering I was using milsurp stuff. I'm waiting for dies, a trim pilot & some 140 PSPs to show up and look forward to getting it tuned in. I think this rifle will do well for Whitetails.

Shot some 147 NATOs through the Eddystone and got 3 nice groups with that, also. These were handloads with IMR 7383 and the case density was about 98% @ 49 grains. Had no clue where to start, but the rifle seems to do well. Switched over to some 165 PSPs over same charge and the rifle continued to shoot well. The peep sight is very helpful to these old eyes and I feel confident with this rifle. Who knows, just might try to bust a Whitetail with it just for kicks and giggles.

Sure is nice to have a good, productive day at the range once in a while, ain't it?

I love to shoot my Swedes. That is a good grouping, at 100 yards they would still be tight. The Swede will take about anything, just need to place the bullet.
Just finished restoring an Eddystone to 100% all E marked parts. It was rather complete when I started, original barrel, stock, bolt but had some W and R pieces as it went through the arsenals. It was just something I wanted to do, no real value added. Now I need to shoot it.

I never much warmed to the Swedes, but I must admit they can shoot.

Always been attracted to the P14s and M17s.

I now have a Swede so I will give it a fir run.

I like the peeps on the P14/M17 and the No4s though.

Early this year I bought a 6.5x55mm 1899 M96B made by Mauser, and the 139gr surplus that's available shoots well for me at 200 yards, and probably will beyond that.

With Jacketed handloads, it shoots well for me at 100, but not at 200. I looked up the maker of the surplus I bought, and it was Norma: I'd expect their ammo to shoot well.

.............Jim, if you're like me about 50 yards is my limit in being able to resolve the sights and the target. At 100 yards it's a crap shoot. I just can't do it justice.

And the rifle. It's just that infantry troops generally aren't fat ole middle aged guys, but 18 and 20 year old guys with good eyesight!

Yeah, you got that right, Buckshot. Fortunately for me, the 6.5 was D&Ted and came with a 3X9X40 scope already on it. That's the only way I was able to put 5 in a dime at 50. Besides, where I'm gonna hunt, I could hit 'em with a slingshot on this side of the pasture, so I can shoot the Eddystone. On the other side, I'll use the Gustav.

Me likes my M1917 ..... and if the "Swedes" were not so expensive I'd grab one or more in a heart beat....... but I "snoozed" and "loosed"!
