Welcome to the NEW server!

Please let me know if you run into ANY issues.. The IP address has changed, which means some people might not be on here for a day or two. If you know someone that cannot connect here over 2 days let me know!

I'll still be doing some tweaking for the new few days or so as well trying to fine tune all the software, and do some updates so you may or may not expirence some brief times of outages.

Yehaw!

Just for reference for the people that are here now.. You might notice not many people are here as of yet, and if you call people on the phone some of them might still be seeing a forum that says it's currently DOWN. That's on the OLD server, as soon as the NEW IP address of this server get's populated around the routers around the world, everyone will be back here.. Usually like i've said 24 - 48 hours everything should be back to normal.

Ditto for me. After surfing for a spell, I got aggravated and went to bed. :coffeecom

During the day I'm a unix systems administrator for a telecommunications company up here. Could you give some details on the hardware for the new server? I'm assuming it's a Linux box running Apache, but I'm more curious about the actual hardware itself--disk arrangement, ram and cpus, as well as any special tuning you did.

I don't know if you remember, but I'm the guy who offered to do tertiery dns for you. BTW, that offer's still open if you ever decide you might be interested.

Thanks and great job on the transition--downtime was minimal!

Don't know how I maintained that fetal position in our broom closet all those hours. Getting out of it was tough, broom closet and all.

It's great to be alive here. :drinks:

Looks like it's been pretty stable all day, still doing a few tweakings too it.

Intel Quad core 2.5GHZ
4GB RAM
a few 350 GB HD's in RAID config.

I can go in more detail if you want :)

All that technical stuff is lost on me. I guess that's why I appreciate the work you do, and I'll just say thanks. Ron.D

Yes, please. We all have our other interests besides casting boolits. I was into computers years before I got into shooting or casting. It is still a large interest of mine. I would love to know what it takes to keep this board up and running.

Thanks for the effort. This is truly a great site.

Thanks Willy! I can't believe how fast things happened once the money came in. I work for a large company with several thousand people in the technology area. Once we have the go ahead it will take 8 weeks before the new server is ready for us to put our applications on it, then test and set it up. Wonder why that is? Guess cuz we're in meetings all day.

Thanks again for all the great stuff you and the team do keeping this up and running!

This has been in the works for about 5-6 months. I had time to get my ducks in a row, and make sure it was the right decision for our future here.
